Product Description

This is the handle only for the interchangeable bassoon mandrel. It has an has an ebony handle. To be used with the Chiarugi sets of interchangeable bassoon mandrels. The metal mandrels, which are bought seperatly in sets of six, slot into the told of the bassoon mandrel handle and are secured by a constricting screw system.

Being able to change the mandrels over means that you can leave the bassoon reeds todry on the mandrels; if you had to take the reeds off as with a normal bassoon madrel you can damage the base or tipof the reed when trying to remove it.

Bassoon reed mandrel handel

Using this handle with interchangeable mandrels makes it possible to put together a number of reeds at the same time and leave them to dry on the mandrels without having to disturb them. Really useful.

Handle...

The handle is great! It fits the mandrels snugly, and it's nice to form and place on drying rack without changing mandrels... but I can't do that because the mandrels themselves require alteration. The sides of the mandrels are a straight sided cone... and the rounded end is abrupt. I have altered one of my 24 mandrels into a more graduated curve on the side of the cone... and a double bevel on the end to be less brutal in the tube forming process. It works great for forming... now I only have 23 more mandrels to adjust. But, the handle is great!
